SONJA

Red-Shouldered Hawk [Buteo Lineatus]

37–43.7" Wingspan

Sonja came to the Museum in early 2017 with a head injury and permanent damage to her eyes.  She had been hit by a car in central Vermont.

Red-shouldered hawks are becoming more common in the northeast but Vermont is near the northern edge of their range.  Favoring wet forests and wooded swamps, red-shoulders are very at home in the bayous and swampland of the south.
