QUEENIE
California Kingsnake [Lampropeltis getula californiae]
Average Adult Length 3 - 4 Feet
Queenie the kingsnake (get it?) was brought to the Museum as an unwanted pet in 2015. Her unusual coloration made her a natural fit with the Museum’s taxidermied albino animals. She is missing the dark pigments that give normal kingsnakes their banded appearance. With her yellow pigments intact, she is not technically an albino.
California Kings are an opportunistic snake that feed mostly on other reptiles but readily eat rodents, eggs and birds. These snakes are found in the southwest and are not native to the northeast and not very closely related to any of our local snakes.
