Artemis was struck by a car in Poultney, Vermont in the winter of 2023 and came to the Museum the following spring. She suffered a broken wing that did not heal correctly so she is unable to fly. Barred owls are attracted to roadsides by the easy hunting conditions. This is especially true in the winter when even an owl's incredible hunting skills are put to the test.
