PIPER

Red-Tailed Hawk   [Buteo Jamaicensis]

43–57" Wingspan

Piper came to the Museum from VINS in Quechee, VT after being an education bird at their facility.  Hit by a car in 2004, Piper suffered a permanent wing injury and can no longer fly.

Red-tails are one of our most commonly seen hawks and can be found all over North America.  Incredibly adaptable, these birds are at home in any habitat with some open space and adequate prey; including cities, farms, industrial parks, along highways and in deserts or grasslands.
