CEDAR

Eastern Screech Owl   [Megascops Asio]

18.9 – 24" Wingspan

Most of the screech owls we find in Vermont will be gray-phase owls who blend in perfectly with many of our northeastern tree species.  We do find red and brown screech owls in the North but Cedar is from a bit further south.  Found in the fall of 2019 at the base of a tree on Long Island, she suffered soft tissue and neurological damage that suggest some sort of impact.  This beautiful red-phase owl has permanent damage to her right wing and ear tuft.  Preventing her from flying and also giving her that unusual asymmetrical appearance.
