Alistaire the Barred Owl

ALISTAIRE

Barred Owl   [Strix Varia]

39-44" Wingspan

Alistair was hit by a car not far from the Museum in 2010.  He came to us seven years later and immediately joined the education team. With a detached retina, he is blind in one eye and would not be likely to survive in the wild.

Barred owls are the most common owl, wherever forests are found, in the eastern United States.  Over the last 100 years these birds have even expanded their range from the eastern forests across Southern Canada to the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
